The live entertainment map in Latin America is welcoming a new destination next month, with bosses of DAVIarena saying it presents a “message of confidence” in the viability of the Antioquia region to attract top international tours.
Located in Sabaneta, in the far southern reaches of the Medellín metro area, in Valle de Aburrá, DAVIarena is entering the mid-to-high-capacity multi-purpose venue market with a proposition that looks to combine financial strength, infrastructure built to international standards, and the agility of a dedicated entertainment ecosystem.
The project, which represents a major private investment of approximately 320 billion Colombian pesos, is building its selling point around not only capacity, but also through pitching operational efficiency and the sophistication of the audience experience to touring parties.
“DAVIarena arrives to fulfil a specific market need: to offer an indoor, multi-purpose and flexible venue in Antioquia, specifically designed to host large-scale shows under international standards,” explains Tomás Uribe, the venue’s commercial manager.
Finding itself in a satellite location outside the Medellín municipality, to establish this positioning, the arena is drawing on a combination of local identity and global reach. Its official opening will be headlined by Colombian rock artist Juanes, leading Uribe to say: “Having Juanes inaugurate DAVIarena holds a very special meaning. He is an artist from the Antioquia department who built a global career without losing his connection to his homeland.”
“DAVIarena Is An Arena Made In Antioquia, With The Capacity To Connect With The World” “That story perfectly represents what we want to project: an arena made in Antioquia, with the capacity to connect with the world,” he continues, adding that opening with an international-level production “sends a message of confidence to promoters, agents and artists.”
To attract demanding international productions and the large-scale staging required by today’s pop and urban music tours, DAVIarena’s architectural design directly addresses some of the main technical and logistical requirements faced by promoters.
In the technical department, the venue features a robust rigging grid with a load capacity of up to 140 tonnes, equipped with ChainMaster motors and the necessary hardware for audio and production rigging points. This is complemented by an adaptable architectural design that provides clear, uniform and immersive sound across different configurations, together with an L-Acoustics K1 and K2 line array system, front and side fills, KS28 subwoofers and AVB processing.
Heavy-load logistics include a modular Rolling Stage measuring up to 14.6 by 19.2 metres, five loading docks, a 3,170-square-metre manoeuvring yard capable of accommodating between 10 and 15 trucks simultaneously, and a dedicated generator room with a capacity of 1,200 kVA.
“This infrastructure allows us to optimise load-in and load-out processes, reduce operational times and offer promoters and production teams conditions that are fully compatible with the riders of major international tours,” explains the commercial manager.
Behind the concrete and sound lies a commercial alliance which Uribe says “transcends the presence of the brand name on the façade”. The venue’s name stems from a strategic naming rights agreement with the financial institution Davivienda, structured alongside BeatHub Entertainment. Although confidentiality terms protect the specific economic details, Uribe notes that the agreement aims to “integrate Davivienda into the venue experience through benefits, content, access opportunities and meaningful moments for its clients”.
The integration of Tuboleta within the venue’s ecosystem represents another major competitive advantage for the venue. The ticketing platform will enable centralised management of inventory, ticket issuance, seat allocation and access validation, depending on the configuration of each event.
The model includes digital ticketing, authenticity controls, access monitoring and protocols designed to detect irregular or duplicate use, helping to mitigate fraud and unauthorised resale. “Our goal is for technology to facilitate entry, strengthen ticket traceability and reduce the risks associated with unauthorised resale,” Uribe says.
“Profitability Will Not Depend Solely On The Number Of Events”
With an initial projection of more than 75 events per year, management will not depend on a single musical genre. The programme will include urban music, pop, rock, salsa and popular music, alongside sporting, corporate and family events, as well as special experiences.
“From a commercial standpoint, profitability will not depend solely on the number of events. It will also be tied to occupancy, the efficiency of configuration changes, food and beverage, hospitality, sponsorships and experiences developed together with partner brands,” says Uribe.
To maximise per capita spend, the venue will roll out an extensive hospitality offering that includes private suites, corporate boxes, VIP areas, hospitality spaces, bars, restaurants and brand experience centres designed to extend visitors’ time at the venue and encourage consumption before, during and after each show. The offering will also include preferential access, exclusive parking and dedicated food and beverage services.
Finally, the challenge of moving more than 17,000 people per night through Sabaneta’s urban environment will be managed through a multimodal plan coordinated with local authorities, supported by the venue’s proximity to Itagüí Metro station and major road corridors such as Las Vegas and Regional avenues. “Each show will have an operational plan tailored to its attendance, schedule and audience type […]. The goal is to distribute arrivals and departures, facilitate audience guidance and reduce pressure on the immediate surroundings,” Uribe concludes.
DAVIarena thus presents itself not simply as a new building on the Antioquian landscape, but as a driving force for Colombia’s entertainment economy, connecting audiences from Antioquia, the Eje Cafetero and other regions with the global live entertainment circuit.
